World Market

World Market, originally known as Cost Plus World Market, is a specialty retail chain that began in 1958 on Fisherman's Wharf in San Francisco, California. The store initially sold imported wicker and rattan furniture priced at cost plus ten percent, a pricing strategy that inspired its original name.

Over the years, World Market expanded its product offerings to include a diverse range of items such as furniture, home décor, curtains, rugs, gifts, apparel, coffee, wine, craft beer, and international food products. The store is particularly renowned for its eclectic mix of imported goods and its vibrant, bazaar-like shopping environment.

As of 2020, World Market operated 258 stores across 39 states and Washington, D.C.

In 2012, the company was acquired by Bed Bath & Beyond, and in 2021, it was sold to Kingswood Capital Management.

World Market is especially famous for its unique assortment of international foods and beverages, stylish furniture, home décor, and thoughtful gifts. It is also known for its extensive Christmas Marketplace, which features traditional cakes, cookies, and candies from Europe and beyond, as well as a variety of holiday décor ranging from trendy and whimsical to time-honored and traditional.
